Pingle Studio Releases “Traits and Some Magic” DLC for Becastled

On Thursday, October 22, 2026, Pingle Studio unveiled the Traits and Some Magic downloadable pack for its game Becastled. The update introduces a system of more than 40 new traits that players can select during a run. After a Blood Moon event, which occurs every few days, you may choose one of three traits divided into Common, Uncommon, and Rare rarities. The chance of receiving rarer options increases following such events.

Examples from the new pool include Master of the Bow, which forces you to use only archers while significantly boosting their damage; Manifest Destiny, which reduces mood but allows you to acquire several upcoming zones for free; and Glass Cannon, which lowers your units’ health while increasing their attack power. These traits are designed to create meaningful trade‑offs rather than simply granting bonuses.

In addition to traits, the DLC adds two new unit classes—Mages and Clerics—that can be recruited from a newly introduced Mage School. Mages deliver high area damage at the cost of fragility, making them effective against groups of enemies yet vulnerable if exposed. Clerics provide healing support; they keep your army alive longer but have lower offensive capability compared with other units. Both types encourage different tactical approaches within each campaign run.

The development team emphasized building the trait system so designers could add new traits without extensive programming work. This approach allowed rapid iteration during internal playtests. An earlier experiment had let players select unlimited modifiers before starting a game, but that feature was omitted in this release due to time constraints.

Traits and Some Magic is now available for Becastled, offering varied combinations of traits, Mages, and Clerics that invite fresh strategies on every playthrough. ¹
