Square Enix announced that FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE is now available on the Xbox Series X|S and PC. Players can try the game for free by downloading a demo of the full first chapter, which carries over if they purchase the title. The release marks the first time Square Enix has applied its “HD‑2D” hybrid visual style to the flagship franchise; it combines expressive 2D pixel‑art sprites with fully rendered 3D environments, cinematic cameras, dynamic lighting, particle effects, and depth of field into a compelling aesthetic reminiscent of Triangle Strategy.

The game adapts the story of former mobile exclusive Final Fantasy Brave Exvius into a wholly reimagined console RPG experience. Developers Square Enix and LANCARSE have built and balanced combat, progression systems, and world anew on top of that original story into a single-player, single-purchase RPG. It returns to classic menu-driven turn-based battles while introducing new mechanics such as stagger meters and Visions—echoes of past Final Fantasy characters who lend Rain and his allies their powers in battle. A central new mechanic gives each enemy a stagger meter; when depleted, enemies are stunned and lose an action round. Triggering a sweeping stagger also allows you to unleash its special Resonance attack, complete with a full 3D summon-style cutscene.

Play it on both console and PC at no extra cost with XBOX Play Anywhere. 1
